Supervision and

Professional Development

The Michigan Board of Marriage and Family Therapy and the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs requires that individuals practicing as Limited Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LLMFT) have clinical supervision by a fully Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I use a collaborative, holistic approach to explore therapist identity and to further uncover areas of strength and professional interest. Together we work to adapt your therapy style to your personal values, as you are first a human. My goal is to ensure you have access to resources, both within the mental health field and within yourself, to provide high quality, clinically sound therapeutic services using a culturally-centered, culturally-responsive lens.

Clinical supervision can address:

  • Therapist identity

  • Developing culturally-centered and culturally-responsive clinical skills

  • Identifying areas of strength

  • Increasing therapist self-efficacy

  • Developing a clinical niche, if desired

  • Learning best practices in business strategies

  • Identifying populations of clinical interest

  • Professional growth in post-modern approaches

  • Developing crisis intervention skills and plans

I offer supervision in accordance to the state of Michigan’s LLMFT license guidelines. These guidelines include the following:

  • At least half of these hours must be completed with families, couples, or other subsystems of families physically present in the therapy room.

  • At least one fifth of these hours must be under supervision in which no more than one other supervisee is present.

  • The remaining hours may be done under group supervision with no more than six supervisees present.
